For the kids these days, you might have not know Perf de Castro so now is the best time to get to know him in a different way. Perf de Castro used to be with mainstream rock bands such as Backdraft, Tri-Axis, Rivermaya (for their first album) and Wolfgang. He also sessioned for Francis M in his album, ”Freeman”, Nonoy Zuniga, Gary V, Orient Pearl and many others. This guy really has a one hell of a talent and now he’s into classical guitar performances. I remembered him while he was with Rivermaya and also performing with Francis M.
My grade school friend Chili told me that he’s back and will be doing series of shows here in Manila and Cebu to show Filipinos of his classical guitar talent. He’s one of the Philippines’ guitar geniuses and must be appreciated. Read the rest of this entry »
The long awaited debut album of Archipelago “Travel Advisory” will be released on September. The album launch will be held on Sept.11, 2009 (9.11.09) at Mag:Net Bonifacio High Street. Other bands that will perform prior to them will be Toi, Monkeyspank, Liquid Jane, Tempestuous Jones & Pupil.
According to Yan Yuzon, the carrier single will be released on Sept. 1. I wonder if “May 1″ will be re-released as a single or if there will be a new single. “May 1″ already has a video.
Anyway, i’ll surely be there. Mark your calendars and see yah!
Just the other day, my officemates and I were fighting about the color of Annie’s underwear in the 90′s Japanese series, Shaider. All of us grew up at the time Shaider was really something we look forward to but have never realized about the color of Annie’s underwear. We know that it always shows whenever she does action sequences. Anyway, after an hour of arguing about it, we have finally realized that whenever Annie wears her brown fringe skirt matched with her brown vest, her underwear is white but whenever she wears the yellow counterpart of it, her underwear’s yellow.
Anyway, since we’re talking about Shaider here I stumbled upon one of my favorite band’s music video Murasaki Blue. The Dorques released their album November of 2008 but it’s only now that they’ve released a music video. The video was inspired by Shaider. Nina (the keyboardist) portrayed Annie (oh yes, she wore that fringe skirt and her underwear jived to the major realization of the day.
The music video was directed by Marie Jamora. Watch it and you’ll be reminiscing your childhood watching Shaider.
Pupil re-launched their 2nd album Wildlife last Friday, July 10th at the SM Sky Dome. What’s special about this album is that they have remastered all the tracks (meaning, it has better quality) and in addition, they have a separate CD of the tracks they performed during the Pupil Lister’s Night held in Big Sky Mind. It also contains a DVD of Pupil’s music videos and digital wallpapers of Pupil there so that fans can place it as wallpapers on their desktop computers or laptops.
So, it was a Friday, the last day of my work week. I left work at 5:20 pm and immediately rushed to SM North just to make sure that Karla and I would avoid the Friday rush hour heavy traffic. The rain was pouring hard but that did not stop us from going to SM Sky Dome. I bought Hero hotdogs for dinner and decided to eat it while we’re inside the venue. There isn’t that much people yet at 7:00 pm. According to the announcements, the show was supposed to start at 7:00 pm but because of the rain, the band was stuck in heavy traffic in EDSA. So, we went inside the Sky Dome and sat at the middle aisle because it would be difficult to see if we’re on the side. A lot of familiar faces were there, the Pupil and Circus listers, a former colleague of mine from Eperformax and my grade school friend Chili. It was nice to see Chili again whom I have never spoke for more than 10 years and also Gerard, a fellow Circus lister I met during the Eheads Final Set (also one of the individuals who got a portion of Ely’s Levi’s jacket). It’s the time to celebrate how wonderful the music of the world is with Fete dela Musique 2009. This time it will be held at different areas in Metrowalk on June 20, 2009. The line up per genre is listed below. I’ll probably be at Metro Phi to listen to the electronica/goth/new wave sounds. Maybe I’ll pass by the center plaza to some of my favorites there such as Corporate Lo-Fi, Itchyworms, Chilitees and many more. Read the rest of this entry »
While I was at the Sandbox media launch event last June 11th, I didn’t realize that it was already being shown at the screen behind me. It was Karla who told me that it has been playing there since we got inside The Bureau. I was surprised to see that I saw the Eheads together in a TV commercial. I remember the TV commercials they had before such as Pepsi Megadrive, San Miguel Homeboys, 2 Chippy commercials and some others. I think the last commercial they had was the Bogchi Chippy.

What is Human Trafficking?
Human trafficking is the illegal trade in human beings and their use by criminals to make money. That could mean deceiving and/or forcing people into prostitution, domestic servitude or manual labor.
It is a tragic form of modern-day slavery and is one of the most urgent human rights problems in the region.
Human traffickers target individuals who are eager to elevate their status in life. These criminals woo their targets by luring them with false promises of a bright future. The so-called “victims” are trapped in the (un)safe houses of these syndicates – controlling every move of their modern day slaves. Calling them ‘victims’ would only make them powerless and we need to also change this kind of ‘victim’ mentality. Read the rest of this entry »
Road managers a.k.a ‘roadies’ play a very important role for the bands. They are the ones who make sure that everything is ok before the band goes onstage. They help the band bring their equipments, make sure that their guitars are in tune, the amplifiers’ volume are just right, the band have their beer or water near them etc. I remembered Lourd de Veyra of Radioactive Sago Project said “Hindi kusang lilipad ang gitara kay Rico Blanco pagkatapos niyang kantahin ang linyang Liwanag… (from the song Liwanag sa Dilim) at hindi rin lulutang ang gitara kapag hinahagis ang gitara sa ere” – (it’s already paraphrased but it’s something like that ). It’s funny but it’s true. The roadies make sure that these rockstars can show off their rockstar stunts to the audience.
Too bad that most of the roadies don’t have health benefits that would at least protect them from the expensive hospital bills in case something happens to them. This is the reason why Rock Ed organized this kind of event to raise funds for them to have health cards. The event was held at Mag:Net High Street last May 9th. Different bands participated in this event to give health cards to their respective roadies. I also helped in going around with a donation box to add money to the health fund. Archipelago is a band composed of Yan Yuzon on vocals/guitars, Pat Tirano on guitars, Chad Rialp on bass and Wendell Garcia on drums. They have already released their first single “MRI” and has earned a fan base because of this song. I personally loved this song as it sounded gothic and melancholic at the same time. Kinda gives me the old school sound of 90′s rock. By the way, this song won the Silver Prize, Best Rock Song at the 2009 Asia Voice Independent Music Awards (AVIMA) based in Malaysia. Listen to the acoustic version of MRI:
The band will be releasing their 2nd single on April 11th and the most exciting part is that they will be releasing their album entitled “Travel Advisory” soon! I have been longing to have this album becuase I am interested to hear the other songs as well. The band is also celebrating its 1st anniversary. Happy anniversary guys!
