Clubbing seems to be the new term for disco or rave partying for this generation. I think I was part of the rave party generation but never really got the hang of it. It was only recently when I learned about the new term called “Clubbing”. It was only recently when I first went to Encore Super Club (formerly called Embassy) for the media launch of the San Mig Light Party All Night which will happen on June 25 – 26 (6 pm – 6 am) at the SMX Convention Centre. You might be surprised seeing this article here but don’t get me wrong, a band enthusiast like me can still appreciate other genres. :p

Featured artists will be DJ MATT DAREY & DJ Johnboy Lee.

VIP tickets and tables are priced at Php 600, inclusive of 2 bottles of San Mig Light, 1 photobooth stub and 1 raffle stub.
Regular tickets are priced at Php 400, inclusive of 2 bottles of San Mig Light, 1 photobooth stub and 1 raffle stub.
Just call 854-5578 or 632-3367 for ticket reservations and queries.

In 1984, San Miguel Beer released a TV ad entitled, “Isang Platitong Mani” which featured popular Filipino icons such as “Flash” Elorde, pop icon Rico J. Puno, billiards champion Amang Parica and legendary jockey Eduardo Domingo. The ad became very popular and in 2009, San Miguel Beer made a remake of that famous TV ad which featured the newest endorsers from showbiz and sports industries such are Michael V. , Derek Ramsey, Efren “Bata” Reyes and Manny Pacquiao. This was where we heard the phrase “roasted highland legumes”, the English translation of the common finger foods that we Filipinos (and other beer-drinking nationalities) love to nibble whenever we have a round of beer.

For 2010, San Miguel Beer will be having the Pale Pilsen Peanuts Promo from January 23-March 12. For every 2 bottles of San Miguel Pale Pilsen, you will get 1 free bottle of Pale Pilsen and 1 serving of peanuts. The promo will run in selected bars in Metro Manila, North and South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Aside from that, another promo, the Pilsen Time Pachinco Game will be played in selected bars in Central, North and South Luzon areas. Beer drinkers can get a chance to win a limited edition beer mugs.

San Miguel just recently had their press launch in 3 different bars at the Ortigas Home Depot wherein the press people were able to experience the 2+1 Pale Pilsen beer and peanut promo and the Pilsen Time Pachinco Game. We were first at Jay-J’s Inasal. Hosts of the event were comedians Maverick, Ariel and Michael V. The event were also attended by 2 San Miguel Beermen, Danny Ildefonso and Chris Calaguio.

The organizers of the event enabled press people to become interactive. In Jay-j’s Inasal, we were assigned into groups so that we can participate in the games they have prepared for us. The first game was a series of trivia questions based on the hosts re-enactment of the “Isang Platitong Mani” commercial. All we had to do was to listen. Our group won a couple of gift certificates (yey!).

(photo by Karla Redor of rockersworld.com)

After the first venue, we transferred to V58 bar where we had the Pachinco game. I volunteered to join (because I wanted to drink beer already but hoping that the pachinco will land on the slot where I can have a cup of beer. Well, the ball didn’t land there so I immediately won the beer much. Michael V. noticed that I wanted a mug of beer so they gave me a cup of beer anyway(yehey for me!) .

(photo by Karla Redor of rockersworld.com)

Then for our last stop, we headed to Taboo Bar. Of course, since this is San Miguel Beer, the beer drinking contest will forever be present. The rule was to drink as much beers as you can for as long the San Miguel jingle plays. My friend, Juned, joined and was able to drink 2 bottles of beer. Michael V. wanted to see women drink beer and because I was infront, he made sure that I join. I had a lady contender from the press. I drank the whole bottle straight while my contender drank only half of it. Well, it was my first time to join that kind of contest in my life and glad that I was able to drink a bottle of Pale Pilsen bottoms up! Anyway, everybody became a winner and got the limited edition San Miguel jacket (Super thanks!).

I was able to get some San Miguel Beer goodies so good news, one of my readers will be able to get the limited edition San Miguel Beer Mug by joining my contest here! (click on the link!)

** photo from www.eheadscountdown.com

I recognize the fact that the tickets for the Eraserheads Final Set are quite expensive for some so I decided to compile some of the contests (that I know of) that can make you score some tickets for free. So if there are other contests that I was not able to post here, feel free to comment so that we could share the information to everyone else.

SMART
Being one of the major sponsors of this event, they have ways on how to get tickets for free. One can do this by texting EHEADS to 234 so that you can get their Eheads ringtone of the day. By doing this everyday, you can have the chance to win VIP Tickets (worth Php 5,000 each) and have a ‘meet and greet’ session with the Eraserheads. Now isn’t that cool? This is the only contest/promo that will give away VIP tickets. Of course you have to have a whole lotta Smart and Talk n Text Load in your mobile phones. Everyday, Smart will be giving away 5 Gen Ad tickets. This promo is valid only until March 1. For more official information about the concert and also some articles about the Eheads, log on to www.eheadscountdown.com. ** Updated 25/02/09

MTV PHILIPPINES
Aside from Smart, MTV Philippines is also one of the major sponsors. For this contest, you would have to have an MTV account. You can do that by registering at www.mtvphil.com and then when you already have the account, go the promo page (click here). Answer the very simple question “What is the title of the Eraserheads Concert?” . No coaching needed, you already know it! Deadline for this contest is March 4.

SAN MIGUEL SARAP MAGBABAD SUMMER PAINOM KICK OFF PARTY
San Miguel will be raffling off 2500 tickets to the people who will be attending the Kick Off Parties that will happen simultaneously at Baypark View (Roxas Boulevard) and Taal Vista (Tagaytay). The gigs will happen on the night before the Eheads concert itself, March 6.

JAGERMEISTER
If you’re an alcoholic, take advantage of it! Just buy shots or bottles of Jagermeister from their participating branches and you can get VIP tickets. Here is the list of the participating outlets:

Antakya Bar & Grill
Off the grill QC
Gweilos MOA
Coco Mangas Laguna
Trucos
Quattro QC

For any inquiries call or text : Ged 0928-9734440 or 0917-5243756

CIRCUIT MAGAZINE
This is one of the easiest contests ever, you just have to answer the question “What is your favorite Eraserheads song and why?” and then send it to info@circuitmag.net. They will be getting 5 winners (2 tickets per winner).

NU 107.5
This radio station has been playing Eheads songs for the past weeks and for you to be able to get some tickets (I know for sure that this is the bronze tickets worth Php 300.00 each) is to call immediately once you hear an Eraserheads song being played on air. The DJ does not need to introduce it, you just need to be alert and grab the nearest phone. I think the number you have to dial is 6366 1075 (i’ll verify it, promise). They will be giving 4 tickets (bronze tickets) for every winner.

Magic 89.9
They also have an ongoing contest by calling in to their station and by answering some questions about Smart Buddy Rewards. Most likely the DJs will be giving the queue on when to call so again, be alert for this one. They’ll also be giving away bronze tickets.

COCA COLA
I also heard in NU 107 that Coca Cola will be giving away Silver A tickets (worth Php 3000) to the first 100 individuals who will queue on the concert venue (on March 7) itself. All you have to do it wear the Buhay Coke Smile Shirt (available at Bench outlets). Line starts at 5 pm sharp. ** Updated 25/02/09)

SM MALLS
**updated 25/02/09: According to an Eheads mailing lister mark_wellgrin (thanks for this one), he saw a promo at an SM Mall. You can avail a bronze ticket (worth Php 300) for only Php 155 when you buy a Smart Sim Card (worth Php 40) and get a load worth Php 115. This promo is available at SM Megamall and SM North Edsa. Most likely, you can buy the sim card through customer service.

Well, if everything else fails, you can approach the people who are connected to these sponsors (or the Eheads themselves). Try your luck with them. If not, you can also solicit money from different friends so that you can come up with enough money to buy the ticket that you want.

Summer is almost here and so San Miguel has prepared a summer long celebration for its avid beer afficionados (and even the non-beer afficionados ). Last week, they have formally launched the series of events for this summer. Get the chance to experience the cool breeze of summer with the new Double Chill San Miguel Pale Pilsen. Oh yes, for me, it’s really important that the beer is really cold so they made this new process of making the beer zero degrees. You can experience the zero degrees celcius beer by attending their parties for this summer. The Kick Off concert will be on March 6 with simultaneous gigs at the Bayview Park in Roxas Boulevard; Taal Vista in Tagaytay; SM City Baguio; Torres Compound in Davao City and Leyte Park Hotel, Tacloban City. Bands that will perform on the different locations are Sugarfree, Rivermaya, Parokya ni Edgar, Brownman Revival and many others.

For the people who will be attending the Kick Off Parties at the Bayview Park in Roxas Boulevard and Taal Vista in Tagaytay will get the chance to win Eraserheads Final Set Concert tickets. They’ll be giving it away to 2500 lucky Eraserheads fans.

Of course, there will be beach parties that’s gonna happen throughout the Philippines. Sustaining beach parties will be hapening in Iba, Zambales and Puerto Galera. The schedules for other beaches are as follows:
April 11- Mindoro
San Fabian, Pangasinan; San juan, Batangas; Bantayan Island, Cebu – May 2
Gen. Luna, Siargao-May 13.

San Miguel had their heart’s day celebration at the parking lot opposite San Miguel Corp last Feb. 12 and 13. We were invited to attend the 13th with Soapdish, Kamikazee and Mocha Girls as their guest performers. I hope we were also able to attend the 12th because Sugarfree was there (too bad I have work the next day). Anyway, we got VIP tickets and had some free beer. We also got the chance to see the band (and the girls) up close since we were literally infront of the stage. Lucky I was in this event and not in UP Fair. I guess you have heard the UP Fair riot happened that night as well.

The event’s theme was sort of like a high school fair because they have booths such as jail booth, tarot card reading, etc. It actually made me remember the high school fairs I have attended while I was still studying in an exclusive school opposite the archer’s area (Get it? hehe).

The Brazilian models were also there. Since this is a beer event, there would always be girls just to entice curiosity among the audience (ahem, the male audience). I think that most of the men there were excited with the Mocha Girls. It was my first time to see them. I didn’t know anything about them except that girl-to-girl kissing scandal that they had a few months ago (which until now they are still denying, duhhh). Surprisingly, they can sing and of course dance. The songs they performed were the mainstream dance tunes in the likes of Britney Spears, Rihanna, etc… Men were literally infront (I think it’s just a few of us, I mean women) and these men were drooling over the super skimpy outfits of the Mocha Girls. In addition to their song and dance numbers, they also had a game wherein 3 men from the audience were invited to the stage. And guess what these women did? Oh yeah, they had body shots with them and gave them lap dances. During the lap dance, Mocha and another girl actually kissed. It’s like what they did in the “scandalous photos” of them kissing each other. That was accidental huh? NO! It was intentionally done to attact attention. Oh well, it’s nothing new for me (because it’s common for people like us) but for men, it’s titilating their senses. I was able to capture it on video but haven’t uploaded it yet. Hehe.

Anyway, Kamikazee was the last to perform. As always, Jay Contreras delivered a stand up comedy and rockin’ performance. Jay shared his cigarettes, mineral water and beers to the audience. I was one of the people who got a free beer from him. It’s been a long time since I saw Kamikazee live. Most of the time they’re joking around and we, the audience, can’t stop laughing as well. The event was done at around 2 am and the good thing was that the audience were behaved.

This is my first Oktoberfest ever so I was very excited to go this event. So after work, Karla and I headed straight to Ortigas. We took the train of course because we are expecting heavy traffic since number 1, it’s a rush hour and number 2, it’s Oktoberfest. The queue in the MRT was long and of course the coaches were full. We arrived Shaw Station at 8:00 pm. We walked towards SM Megamall and then to SMC. Now the journey has started.

We arrived there with no tickets yet. Why? Because there were no tickets that were sold days before the event. There were lots of people, as in literally lots of them. We walked around because the security in Julia Vargas St. said that the VIP tickets were being sold at the other side of the block. We wanted to have the VIP tickets so that we can see Third Eye Blind. So we walked around the block, gladly there are still VIP tickets. By the way, the VIP tickets were sold at Php 1500 each. So we entered the Oktoberfest grounds, though the Gen Ad area first. The security said that it’s just at the end of the street so we just walked and walked and walked. I was looking at the drinking area and it was organized actually. There were tents with tables and chairs. The concessionaires were behind the beer bar. It was actually a long, long beer bar. They all have the “pulutan” a drinker would ask for. Name it, they have it. There were also stages set up for bands to perform. There were actually 4 stages that were set up, 2 small stages in San Miguel Ave, 1 small stage in Julia Vargas Ave and the biggest stage was in Julia Vargas corner San Miguel Avenue. Of course we are heading to the big stage since the rock bands are performing there.

So as we are walking towards the big stage, suddenly people can’t go on walking anymore. Then we saw the entrance to the special viewing area. We paid Php 1500 so we were expecting to be on that area. One man by the name of Ray Encomienda ( an employee of San Miguel) said that we couldn’t enter the area. He said that we go outside of the area and there’s a tent there where we could hang out. So we went out, and saw the tent. We knew that there was supposed to be an airconditioned area where we can hang out.

We entered the tent and felt relieved that it was airconditioned. Now we are feeling half of what we paid. There was lesser people there ( there were no orks! hehe), comfortable because there are lots of tables and chairs available and it’s airconditioned! There was also a stage inside where there’s a host ( it’s Rick Striker by the way, a dj from the defunct DWDM 95.5) and there were Oktoberbabes ( who were really lame). There games also to entertain the crowd. The tent was dark, not too much lights. Perks included in our tickets were 3 bottles of Oktoberfest Limited Edition beers each and a food stub. The food they served were German Sausages, Beef Spareribs ( which was by the way, hard to eat since we only have a plastic fork) and 2 pieces of mochi ice cream. All of them of course was San Miguel/ Magnolia products. Oh, they also served free ice cream. I wasn’t able to get mine, Karla did.

After eating ( and cooling down) , we wanted to position ourselves for Third Eye Blind. Bands were already performing and we really didn’t mind them since we can always see them during their regular gigs in local bars. So when we went out, there were lots of people struggling to enter the side exit ( the one near the VIP tent, remember where we went out?). There were already barangay tanods and bouncers because they are blocking the exit. I also observed that there were people surveying the attendees of the event and what were the problems and issues they faced during the event. Hmm, my sociological background urges me also to do that but anyway I was there to watch Third Eye Blind. I could hear people complain that they paid Php 120 and they couldn’t even enter the venue. It was about 11 pm then and more and more people were still coming. Obviously, they are still selling tickets and not thinking if they could still accommodate the people. While we were attempting to enter the side gate, there were some people who sort of banged the galvanized iron sheets ( in other words, yero hehe) that was erected to serve as a barricade. It felt scary then but I am still determined to enter the premises. So, I talked to the manongs there and told them that we have VIP tickets, they allowed us to enter after the body bumping with the people who had Gen Admission tickets.

Now we’re inside and since we were told by Mr. Encomienda that we couldn’t enter the special viewing area, we walked on the side and tried to get much closer to the stage. As we were approaching the stage more and more people were there and obviously it was hard to see the stage. I felt that this isn’t the amount we paid for so we walked back and saw a small entrance to that special viewing area ( i.e pig pen). We were allowed to enter by showing him our ticket. Hmm, we felt weird then because Mr. Encomienda said that we are not allowed there.

At last, we’re inside the “pig pen” for VIP. Now we are feeling the amount we paid for. We walked towards the side and we’re much nearer the stage. It’s definitely much better. I saw my college batchmate in UP and I asked her if she went to the VIP tent, she said that they didn’t enter the tent anymore and headed straight to the “pig pen”. So I was wondering, how come she was able to enter the premises.

How’s it going to be

Third Eye Blind started performing at about 12:30 am. They performed about 10 songs, I know it’s more than that. I’m sorry, I wasn’t counting anymore. It was my first time to see them perform and also my first time to see a foreign act ( as far as I could remember, hehe). So enjoy some of the videos that I took. Sorry about the quality, I’m just using my mobile phone. Also, you can hear me singing in the background, I’m sorry too. hehe.

Overall, the Oktoberfest was really a disaster to those people who paid and weren’t able to get what they deserve. I believe there was a lack of coordination with the other members of the security. Also, haven’t they learned from the Eraserheads reunion concert? They should have released the tickets way before the event so that people can buy them immediately. When we were at the press launch the week before that, we were not even informed on how to get the tickets. So people were asking me on how to get the tickets and I couldn’t give them a definite answer as to where.

Yes, it’s true. Third Eye Blind will be performing with other 40 other local bands in the opening of San Miguel Oktoberfest on Sept 5, 2008. Last night, we were invited to the press launch of San Miguel Oktoberfest held at San Miguel compounds of course. They revealed 2 other things aside from Third Eye Blind’s performance. They will also attempt to beat the Guinness World Records for Longest Beer Bar and Most Number of People Toasting.

Another thing is that they will also be releasing the Limited Edition Oktoberfest beer ( which we were able to taste last night). All of these events will happen only for 1 night in San Miguel Avenue, Ortigas. Tickets will be sold for Php 120.00 each.
