Basti Artadi, one of the Pinoy rock gods

Last March 19th Wolfgang performed for their fans at the Music Museum once more. I’m so excited for this gig because I have never seen them perform live before. Thanks to Benj (Wolfgang’s number 1 fan boy )  for scoring us front row seats!

The gig started at exactly 9 pm, we’re already inside the Music Museum at around 8 pm. The stage was very simple, no flashy backdrops or video walls. It’s just like a simple bar gig. Razorback, Wolfgang’s co-repertoire in the music scene, performed first. I haven’t seen Kevin Roy for a long, long time. It just sucked when Kevin’s microphone (s) weren’t working and thus distracting the audience. Anyway, after 2 or 3 songs, the mics were ok so they still continued to rock. After a few songs (I think around 5 or more), there was a 2 minute intermission then Wolfgang entered the stage.

I got excited as Wolfgang started to perform their first song “Mata ng Diyos”. Wahh! All in all, they performed around 19 songs. That number already includes their 2 encore songs which were “Darkness Fell” and “Center of the Sun”. I’m glad that they performed my favorites such as “Halik ni Hudas”, “RP Death Squad”, “Darkness Fell”, “Center of the Sun” and “Arise”. I was actually waiting for them to play “Weightless” and “Ibrahim” but unfortunately they didn’t play them. Sadness ;( . They also had an acoustic set with some members of Razorback such as Kevin and Louie jammed with them.

By the way, I used my mobile phone to record the songs “Halik ni hudas + Natutulog Kong Mundo + Arise” and another set would be “Darkness Fell + Center of the Sun” (encore). Listen here:

Anyway, did you know that I was actually frustrated that night because thereis limited room to move? I mean, it’s Music Museum and there were cushioned chairs! Not a good place to have a rock concert. I wanted to jump but the bouncer was letting us sit down (boo, corny..). Good thing Basti made the crowd stand up so the bouncers really can’t do anything about it. By the way, this was the picture of me plurking about my frustation:

After the concert, our fan person (gender sensitive here! ) tendencies were alarming us to go up on stage and have a picture taken with some members of the band. Manuel Legarda came onstage and voila! Benj, Karla and I immediately rushed to the stage and had a picture taken with him. Here’s our picture with Manuel Legarda, my guitar idol. Wooohoooo!!!!

It seemed that Manuel was the only one who came out so we decided to go out of the Music Museum. We saw Louie Talan (of Razorback) so we had a picture taken with him too! here’s my pic (parang love team, lol!):

It was already late and we’re getting hungry so we left Greenhills and went to Metrowalk. So sad that we weren’t able to meet Basti. Huhu. Benj even told us that Basti were looking for us but we already left! Wahhhh!!!! I hope there’s a next time.

Ok, as promised guys here are the details on how to get the advanced tickets for this exciting gig. If you are into moshpits and would hate to watch a concert sitting down better get these advanced tickets as early as now.

• There will be advance selling of tickets orchestra seats (kindly refer to the seat plan map above) starting February 5 (which is at 8:00 am today). Amount of the advanced orchestra seats will be Php 1200 + 5% service charge= Php 1260. The “first paid, first served” policy will be implemented.
• How do I purchase the advanced orchestra tickets?
  1. Text Wolfgang text line 0906-1035333 from 8am to 8pm to ask for the Banco De Oro BDO account details.
  2. Deposit payment (P 1,260 x number of tickets) at specified BDO account
  3. Text the following details ASAP to the Wolfgang Text line (8am to 8pm only) – Name – Email Address -Number of Tickets -Amount deposited -BDO branch -Date and time of deposit ( as seen on the transaction slip validation).
  4. A confirmation email with your seat assignments will be sent: within 24 hours (for weekday deposits, daily cut off is 4:30pm), Within 30 hours ( those deposited after 4:30pm cut off, Mon-Thurs and Sunday deposits) or up to 3 full days max (Friday after 4:30pm and Saturday deposits)
  5. We will also text you once we have sent confirmation email .
  6. Claim tickets on the day of the show (March 19, 2009) at the Music Museum from 4pm to 8pm Bring valid ID and validated BDO transaction slip plus email print out.

Wolfgang is seriously back in the music scene especially now that they have a major concert with their real life friends in the rock scene, Razorback. The show will be entitled “Wolfgang Tales: Two Sides Live”. Both of the bands will be performing the sound that we’re familiar with however they will also be having an acoustic set.

So be prepared to rock your worlds as the gods of Philippine Heavy Metal will be in one stage again. Again, here are the official details of the concert:

Wolfgang hibernated in the local music scene and after 6 years they are now back with a studio album. Their last studio album recorded was “Black Mantra” released last 2001. The band took a break after releasing “Black Mantra”; members of the band separated ways (Basti Artadi went to San Francisco, Wolf Gemora stayed in L.A, Mon Legaspi in Hong Kong and Manuel Legarda just stayed here in Manila). The band is still firm that they never really disbanded, they just “took a break”.

It was unfortunate that I was not able to watch the Black Chistmas Project concert for this album last Dec.10 in Eastwood. Oh well, I will have the chance to see them live anyway this March (watch out for this one!!!). And so, because of my misery of not being there in Eastwood last December, I just resorted on listening to the album. And to my surprise, they can still rock! Well, it’s not the original line-up anymore because Francis Aquino is now their new drummer. According to Wolf, he did not quit the band. He commented on Philmusic.com’s blogpost regarding this album. Here’s what he had to say:

Hello Jim [owner of Philmusic.com], this is Wolf Gemora. For all intents and purposes, I have NOT quit Wolfgang. Whoever told you that news is obviously either confused or does not know the real deal. The reason for my absence at the Wolfgang “reunion” in ’07 was that my priority at the time was playing with Lokomotiv and had scheduled gigs on both the Music Museum shows. I informed Manuel of my intentions before that and he understood. I did NOT tell anyone that “I quit Wolfgang”. WOLF GEMORA HAS NOT QUIT WOLFGANG. I hope that next time news like this leaks out, someone would get out of their way to ask all parties. Thank you. m/

Anyway, the album has 11 original tracks and I must say that I enjoyed all of them. It’s like bringing back memories of my childhood. 2008 indeed is the year of 90′s nostalgia (together with the Eraserheads reuniting again, also after 6 years). My favorites in the album are “Ibrahim”, “RP Deathsquad”, “N.M.E” and “Kung Gusto Mo Pa”.
