I’ve been listening to local bands since I was young and just like an ordinary kid who admired bands; I wanted to have my own. Living near the guitar shops in Sta. Mesa gave me hope that one day, I will have my own guitar. And so, I did have one. My parents surprised me one day with a guitar lying on our sofa coming home from school. I was in my 5th grade then. I learned to play the guitar on my own from the song hits lying around the house. Those chord charts at the centrefold really helped me hone my guitar playing. Eventually, my dad enrolled me to a music school to learn classical guitar playing. I got bored with it, so after a year, I decided to self-study and played my favourite rock tunes. Then high school came, I was active in playing the guitar for the school choir. I was enjoying it, but still, no band mates. Then I entered college, there were lots of potential band mates however time did not permit me because I was busy balancing studies and org activities.
I was in college when Nescafe Soundskool started and said that they are giving an opportunity for college bands to achieve their dreams of rock and roll stardom. Due to my busy schedule, my rock and roll dreams are already gone. But it’s alright, I am already contented of being a supporter of local bands. Kids today are really lucky because there is already an avenue to hit the mainstream. All that you kids need is confidence.
I wanna go home now, back to my old home town
Where I can sing the blues and stop this whining around

The early days of a successful band is always a struggle and pursuing your dreams is really scary because of the risks that you have to take. Just like the previous winners of Nescafe 3-in-1 Soundskool such as Hilera (2005), Effinboiche (2006), Lazy Susan (2007) and Letter Day Story (2008), they most likely have experienced that. Hilera, being the first winner of Nescafe 3 in 1 Soundskool, is actively performing in different rock joints around the metro such as Saguijo, 6 Underground, Route 196, Sazi’s Bar, Mag:Net and many others. Aside from that, they already have their own album and their songs are being played in different radio stations. So basically, just have a positive mindset and always remember:
Stop being a white lady who performs in the dark for no one but herself.
Stop hiding inside the closet (or locker room J ) and show what your band is all about.
Take off your ninja masks and represent your true selves.
The college band scene is really rocking more and more as the years go by. So why don’t you represent your own schools and show more school spirit (other than through basketball J) through Nescafe 3 in 1 Soundskool?
