How Would the Eraserheads Sound Like in 2014? Here you go.

Esquire Eraserheads

It’s all sinking in now. It’s all sinking in. When the news broke out that Eraserheads will be releasing 2 new songs, I was confined for a week in the hospital. Feeling helpless, I couldn’t get out of my way to scour stores for Esquire. My partner Karla was already calling each bookstore to reserve and finally today she was able to get a copy for me.

I heard the songs while I was in the hospital on September 2nd, streaming live from Jam 88.3 at 7:00 in the morning. I was happy but because I felt a little bit weak because of the dextrose in my veins, I was thinking, is this real? The reality sunk in when I was released in the hospital today, Saturday. At Karla’s car, she inserted the CD, I cranked up the volume and there my entire body felt so alive then started to be teary eyed. It is real. I closed my eyes and savored the moment while driving home.

Ang oras na lumipas
Di na natin maibabalik
Itapon ang kahapon

Yakapin ang darating
“Sabado”, 2014

Sabado was playing on the wee hours of Sunday (as it was past 12 midnight). An employee like me who works on a fixed Monday to Friday work schedule is very familiar with the first line of the song “Buti na lang Sabado bukas // Pwede tayong lumabas”. The song felt so old but it feels like the present. It reminded me of “Minsan” where Ely plays the guitar first then Buddy enters the song with his bass lines then Marcus’ guitars together with Raymund’s drums.

Saan, saan na napunta?
Kislap ng iyong mata
Maibabalik pa ba?
“1995”, 2014

The next song “1995” is nostalgic. Made me think of what happened in the year 1995 and yeah, this was the time when the Filipino music scene flourished with great acts. This was also the year when the Eraserheads reached the peak of their musical career. I was on fifth grade when I was hooked into listening to local bands and NU 107.5. Only a few kids in my school appreciated the music that I listened to and somehow I felt that I was trapped in my own world.

The next day, I read Erwin Romulo’s article on the Eraserheads in Esquire while they were in London. While reading this, I was playing the Eraserheads playlist in Spotify to set the mood. It’s just like reading Fruitcake while the playing the entire album. Erwin’s article is something that every fan wanted to know. How they are dealing with each other now? I guess that this is the most honest article I’ve read which shows how each member dealt with the past and how they wanted to move forward (if ever there is a plan).

Hula, di sapat
Hula ang lahat
Bukas magwawakas na ba ang lahat?
“Hula” from Carbonstereoxide 2001

Since they broke up, I always thought what would they sound like if they make music together again? This is the answer. Thank you Esquire / Erwin Romulo for making every Eraserheads fan’s wish answered. Eraserheads fans have an insatiable appetite to consume anything that each band members create separately (whether as an individual or with their respective bands) and definitely these new songs will leave fans hungry for more. As for me, I am contented on whatever they can do as a group. Will they create more songs in the next coming years? As the line from Hula, “Wag ng pag-isipan”.

Eraserheads in Singapore – Lah!

Eraserheads in SG 2013

August 9th, our flight to Singapore via 2P800 – we arrived Singapore at about 1:10 am (it’s already Aug 10th) and only have a few hours to rest. We anticipated to go to the concert venue at 3 pm as we know how these kinds of concerts work especially if you’re in the standing area. Our friend Aileen and husband Jay got a tip that there will only be one entrance for all kinds of tickets. We had a quick roam (and shopping) around Changi City Point at noon and returned to our hotel at Joo Chiat around 2 pm. Had a quick rest, changed to my Team Manila Eraserheads shirt then we headed to the Max Pavillion at Singapore Expo. The venue is just a few minutes away from our hotel. This is the Last El Bimbo – My Eraserheads Final Set Experience

After 7 months of waiting, the Eraserheads reunited once more. We don’t know the reasons of this re-reunion but being an Eraserheads hardcore fan, it is good news for me. For the people who ask why they are doing this, it’s not really our bloody right to know.

The night before the concert, I was up until 5 am. Supposedly, I was going to sleep early to prep up for this event but something came up. Anyway, I woke up at 11 am and headed to SM Mall of Asia with Karla. We first hung out at Bona Coffee opposite the concert grounds. Karla was wearing her Noytee shirt, the shirt I got didn’t fit me so I requested to meet up with someone from Noytee to get a larger size at 3:30 pm.

The stage (view from VIP section)

Around 4:00 pm, we headed to the VIP entrance as we are expecting that the gates would open at 3:00 pm. Apparently, they’re not letting anyone in yet. Karla and I were the 3rd and 4th person on the right side entrance (near the bay). Patricia and Gerard (newly found friends from Circus) were the 1st and 2nd on the line. We’re complete strangers but the Eraserheads binded us as if we’re already familiar with each other. The guards then were instructed to let the audience in around 4:30 pm. I was really surprised to see how near I am from the stage. Continue reading “This is the Last El Bimbo – My Eraserheads Final Set Experience”

How Can I Get The Eraserheads Final Set Tickets for Free? Let Me Count the Ways

** photo from www.eheadscountdown.com

I recognize the fact that the tickets for the Eraserheads Final Set are quite expensive for some so I decided to compile some of the contests (that I know of) that can make you score some tickets for free. So if there are other contests that I was not able to post here, feel free to comment so that we could share the information to everyone else.

SMART
Being one of the major sponsors of this event, they have ways on how to get tickets for free. One can do this by texting EHEADS to 234 so that you can get their Eheads ringtone of the day. By doing this everyday, you can have the chance to win VIP Tickets (worth Php 5,000 each) and have a ‘meet and greet’ session with the Eraserheads. Now isn’t that cool? This is the only contest/promo that will give away VIP tickets. Of course you have to have a whole lotta Smart and Talk n Text Load in your mobile phones. Everyday, Smart will be giving away 5 Gen Ad tickets. This promo is valid only until March 1. For more official information about the concert and also some articles about the Eheads, log on to www.eheadscountdown.com. ** Updated 25/02/09

MTV PHILIPPINES
Aside from Smart, MTV Philippines is also one of the major sponsors. For this contest, you would have to have an MTV account. You can do that by registering at www.mtvphil.com and then when you already have the account, go the promo page (click here). Answer the very simple question “What is the title of the Eraserheads Concert?” . No coaching needed, you already know it! Deadline for this contest is March 4. Marcus Adoro’s Violator Copy, The Combi and Cubao X

It was supposed to be just another Saturday gimmick for me. Karla and I decided to watch Makoy’s Violator Copy on a Saturday because I have work during weekdays. On the web, it was supposedly scheduled at 6:00 pm but when we got there (Robinson’s Galleria) it was scheduled for 7:30 pm. I got to see the Circus Listers at the theater entrance, they were going to see the film as well.

Violator Copy is a compilation of Marcus Adoro’s video works. The latest short film that he did was “The Artist Is In” which was last year and at last I was able to see it. This isn’t your typical film with dialogues in it; I would probably say that the film talked to its audience through the sound of the surroundings and the non-existence of sound. The lead character, the artist, quietly thinks of song writing ideas inside his room while on the other hand the outside world is full of noise. This shows the difficulty of some artists in the urban setting. I also thought of the struggle of an artist to squeeze their creativity juices given a little amount of time. There are deadlines to make but sometimes creativity lags behind and couldn’t cope under time pressure. It could be hypothesized that a typical day for an everyday worker, perhaps with expected tasks, is almost the same as an artist in under time pressure. Making art would become just like a normal activity and feeling of pleasure is gone. Continue reading “Marcus Adoro’s Violator Copy, The Combi and Cubao X”

Are you ready for this? Things to do before the Eraserheads Final Set Concert

This photo was just uploaded hours ago by Marcus Adoro (through his multiply site, photo taken by Mohawkmom). Just like good old days but this time with a higher rockstar status 😉 . Woot! Rock on!

Let me just give you some Eheads final set preparations that you can do:

  1. Starting now, try to recall the lyrics of their songs so that you can be part of the grand videoke party on the gig itself. You can probably do 1 album at a time, be creative. Don’t forget their rare songs, you might be surprised that they might perform it. It’s pathetic that you only know the common ones like Alapaap, Huling El Bimbo, Magasin and many more.
  2. Try to go to the gigs of their respective bands. They perform in small clubs like Saguijo, 70’s Bistro, Route 196. It’s also one way of moving on from the Eheads Era. Continue reading “Are you ready for this? Things to do before the Eraserheads Final Set Concert”

Eraserheads Reunion DVD 083008 Out Now!

This photo was taken seconds after Karla and I bought the copies of the Eraserheads Reunion Concert 083008. We bought ours in Astroplus SM Makati and we were lucky enough to get the last 2 DVDS on stock. This was just actually released today in all Astrovision and Astroplus stores only then starting January 31, you can already avail it through Odyssey outlets.

We started watching the DVD (it’s not yet done as of this moment) and captured nice photo moments. I envy Karla so much because she appeared twice. Huhu. (And I AM THE FAN GIRL MORE THAN HER!!!). Also the people I was with were at least seen like Tonton and King’s arm. Wahh!!! And where am I? BESIDE KING! Pathetic! Lol

Anyway, I was also saw the girl from NIke (I believe she is) whom I always see in our building (especially in the elevator). Nike’s office is in Rufino Tower and Raymund is one of the endorsers of Nike so most likely she got in there through the SVIP section Raymund.
