The Killers is one of my favorite American bands and have been dying to see them perform live. Glad that they’ve included Manila in their Battle Born Tour. They almost came here in 2010 but had to cancel. Also good that the venue is in Araneta Coliseum because this has better sound system compared to another closed venue in Pasay :D.
It was a Thursday night and for a yuppie like me, I had to come from Makati. Left the office at 6:30 pm (Karla picked me up) and arrived at the venue at almost 8:00 pm. The unfortunate think that I didn’t do is to print the second ticket so we had to look for a computer shop in Gateway. Because of this, we weren’t able to catch the front act. Thought that there isn’t one but just saw in Instagram that Sandwich was the front act. Oh well, I can see them in gigs here since they’re just locally based.
I went inside the coliseum at around 8:45 pm then munched my Taco Bell dinner (no choice). After the fast munch, I had to delete some photos in the camera. All of a sudden, The Killers’ band members went up the stage, no dramatic entrances and suddenly performed “Mr. Brightside”. I immediately stood up (still full from my dinner) and danced to the song. They performed while the houselights were on. Wow.
After “Mr. Brightside”, the lights went off then this became the signal that that was the actual start of the show. The whole time I was standing up enjoying the each song. What I really loved were the lights. The light streaks in were first shown in their cover of Joy Division’s “Shadowplay”. What I noticed is that the lights are focused more on them as a group rather than having individual spotlights on them. I enjoyed the music more with this kind of lighting because I wasn’t obsessing too much on taking photos.
