Upper Box Tickets Aren’t Bad At All: Gin Blossoms in Manila

My location during the Gin Blossoms Concert

Although we spent a lot of money for our trips this year, we still want to watch Gin Blossoms and nothing can stop us from watching this. I was really planning to buy but Karla surprised me and already bought the tickets. Our budget is really for Upper Box B tickets because Upper Box A tickets are expensive (around PHP 2,500 +). Since this is Araneta Coliseum, the view is much better because it has different levels.Β  Visibility of the band is impossible and you’ll be standing for more than 3 hours if you’re in SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. Our seats weren’t bad anyway. We really planned to come early so that we can choose good seats.

Cookie Chua - Gin Blossoms Live in Manila

Cookie Chua Singing “High and Dry”

Front acts who performed were Delara, 6 Cycle Mind, Cookie Chua, Gloc-9 and Australian band Fahrenheit 43. Delara was awesome, Lugee still has a powerful voice. 6 Cycle Mind performed covered 90’s songs such a “Good” by Better than Ezra, “Semi-Charmed Life” by Third Eye Blind, “Closing Time” by Semisonic, etc. I personally didn’t like them, I think that they didn’t do justice to these songs but anyway, it was good to hear those songs again. Cookie Chua sang Radiohead’s “High and Dry” with 6 Cycle Mind. Cookie is still the same, almost didn’t get old. I wish I heard “Hand Painted Sky” by Color It Red. It would be nice if she performed that with them. πŸ™‚

Farenheit 43 - Gin Blossoms Live in Manila

Fahrenheit 43

Fahrenheit 43 is a Melbourne based band and 3 of them are Filipinos (1 is Filipino-Australian). Their music is pop-rock, reminds me actually of Vertical Horizon and Goo Goo Dolls. It’s easy listening. Check their My Space profile here. They’ve got an awesome lady bassist!

Gin Blossoms Live in Manila

I brought my Canon SX 110IS 10x zoom camera but unfortunately it wouldn’t take decent pictures so Karla and I shared her Lumix FZ35 because it’s 18x zoom. Her Lumix FZ35 is always reliable especially when we’re not near the stage. Video and sound quality are really good!

Gin Blossoms’ first song was “Follow You Down”; everybody stood up and sang with the band. Robin’s voice did not change, it’s like hearing their songs exactly how I heard them in their albums. They were going bald though but what the heck! They performed my favorite songs such as “As Long As It Matters”, “Till I Hear It From You” and “Hey Jealousy”. I wasn’t able to keep a list of the songs they performed but I think they sang around 20 songs, including the 3 encore songs. Robin kept on approaching the fans in front of him and even taking pictures with them. No doubt that he’s really enjoying interacting with the Filipino fans. I just noticed that they sang most of their hits in the first part of the show so their last few songs and even the encore weren’t the popular ones. It just didn’t give the final “ummph” , wish they sang “Hey Jealousy” at the end . πŸ™‚

Here’s my video of Till I Hear It From You. I am still uploading the others πŸ™‚
